Mexican food is one of my favorite foods and it was my mission to explore the city for the best street food and authentic cuisine.
I was told by everyone I asked, including my taxi driver that Pepe’s Tacos had the best tacos in town…and they did not steer me wrong. They were some of the best tacos I have ever had. Anyone who knows the foodie side of me knows I can eat tacos everyday, and this particular taco I could eat everyday. They kept the carne asada tacos simple with juicy marinated steak, cilantro and onions. The fresh guacamole salsa and the spicy tomatillo salsa I added set it over the top, Muy bien!
I tried their specialty which was the pineapple pork taco (bottom right) and the chorizo taco. The pineapple taco was unique in that it was both sweet from the fruit and salty from the very thin slices of pork that created a tasty juxtaposition. The chorizo taco (dark taco, bottom left) was a little too salty for my taste, but was still better than other chorizo tacos I’ve had in the past. I’m used to chorizo tacos being very greasy but this wasn’t the case here. The carne asada tacos were hands down my favorite!
I ordered the table side guacamole at a small Mexican restaurant Casa Tradicional Cocina Mexicana. This restaurant was down the street from the Lady of Guadalupe Parrish, one of Puerto Vallarta’s favorite landmarks. The guacamole was spicy and muy delicioso! I don’t know about you, but there’s something about tableside cooking that makes the overall experience 10 times better!
Even when you think it couldn’t get any more authentic than eating Mexican food from a restaurant in Mexico, they prepare the roasted tomato salsa at my table as well. Click here to view. It was so fresh and spicy! Looooooove spicy food!
Now I’m a pretty big fan of rotisserie chicken. Whether its from Boston Market, or homemade in my Ronco Rotisserie Oven, you can’t go wrong with this style of cooking chicken. Click here to see a street side restaurant El Pechugon serving some of the most delicious rotisserie chicken I’ve ever had. It was so juicy and flavorful! I would make it more often if the clean up wasn’t such a hassle!
Chile Rellenos is one of my favorite Mexican dishes and they did not disappoint. I ordered a shrimp and cheese Chile Relleno and the shrimp was cooked to perfection! I was a bit disappointed with the rice and beans. I love rice and beans but these beans weren’t flavored the way that I’m used to, if at all. I washed it all down with a strawberry daiquiri
