The food overall in Jaco, Costa Rica was good. I’d say about half of the restaurants I went to were American owned which was a surprise. On my next trip back to Costa Rica, since I experienced staying in the beach town, I plan on staying more inland, in the middle of the jungle. I hope to have more options of authentic cuisine when I come back.
The Sunrise Breakfast restaurant was the go to place for breakfast.
Breakfast sandwich was on point. Their bacon tasted a lot like country ham though. Still very good.
On the way to Jaco there were what we would call ” Farmer’s Markets” all along the side of the road. They sold fresh fruits and vegetables and that is what I have on my plate. The pineapple was the sweetest I’ve ever had. It tasted like they soaked it in juice first, much sweeter than the fresh pineapple I’ve had in the states.
The Taco Bar was the place to be for lunch. Cute little restaurant/bar, had swings on one side of the bar.
They were known for their fish tacos and the mahi tacos did not disappoint! The steak taco was great as well.
Grabbing a quick bit before heading back to the beach on my last day
This was my favorite meal of the trip. Coffee crusted beef tenderloin over garlic mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables tossed in a basalmic glaze!!! YUM!!! Graffiti Restro Café was great!
My second favorite goes to a meal I had at Lemon Zest. This was Dorado Francaise with Lemon Butter and caper sauce. Or a French style pan fried Mahi with lemon butter sauce over mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. I started noticing a trend with the mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. Seemed to be the side dish of many dinner selections here in Jaco.
Most of the restaurants were either outdoors or had indoor/outdoor dining. I had these steak nachos at one of the outdoor restaurants/pubs. Beef was nicely seasoned, but the portion was way too large for me to finish. Still excellent.
The Greenroom had the best ambiance. It was inside, dimly lit with a live musician playing in the background. On my last night in Costa Rica I just kept it simple with one of my favorite salads… on a burger. The Caprese Burger. Although I could have done with about half the bread it was still good.
